on the Lower Oxtongue River Saturday July 27, 9am-2pm
Bring your canoe, kayak or paddle board. We start at Dwight Beach at 9:00am and paddle 1 km along the Dwight Bay shore to the mouth of the Lower Oxtongue. From the lake it's a 4.5 km paddle up the slow winding river to Marsh's Falls. Take your time and explore the meanders and bays along the way. Each boat will have a list of plants and animals to look for. Prizes are awarded for the most species found. When you reach the falls land at the Marsh's Falls Nature Reserve. Stretch your legs, enjoy a catered lunch by the falls and explore our walking trails. Return to Dwight Beach by 2:00pm. Cost $25 per person.
The recipients of the Harriet T. Weaver Bursaries for 2024 are local high school graduates Foster Card of Huntsville High School, and Ella Follas of Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School. They will each receive a gift of $1000 towards their studies of Fish and Wildlife
Technician at Sir Sandford Fleming College, and Environmental Science at the University of Ottawa, respectively.
The Bursaries are awarded annually to a graduating student from each of Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School and Huntsville High School who are accepted for study at a college or university in a subject related to LBHF activities. The awards were made possible thanks to an initial endowment from Harriet's son Brink, a former president of the Lake of Bays Association, and many other donors.
Our 2024 AGM will take place on Saturday August 17 at the Baysville Community Centre. Each year a community in the Lake of Bays area is researched and documented in video and printed format. The Marine Road community will be featured this year.
Coffee 10:00am, meeting 10:30am, followed by lunch
Mushrooms come in all shapes, sizes and colours. We will try to find and identify as many species as possible. Sharp eyes will be needed to detect the specimens on the forest floor. This is a great opportunity to learn about mushrooms in general, and which kinds grow around Lake of Bays. We will be hosting two forays this year.
